Sutton Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgendered Group Launched

Sutton residents, Council employees and members of the local Police Service have recently formed the Sutton Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgendered Forum.  Launched on the 27th of March at Sutton Police Station, this event was the successful culmination of a lengthy process to establish a Boroughwide LGBT group.

The Forum intends to work with local public bodies, the commercial sector and other organisations to see that services are geared to meet the needs of the Borough's LGBT community.  The next meeting of the Forum will be held at Sutton Police Station at 2pm on the 24rd April.  All are invited.  If you wish to attend please contact Sgt Martin Nicholson via Martin.Nicholson@met.police.uk.

Some of the issues the Forum intends to pursue include: -

  • The need for the Forum to engage with the Borough's LGBT community. The lack of social venues within the Borough for Sutton's LGBT community.
  • Combating homophobic harassment within Sutton and the need to ensure a prompt response to such incidents by the police and other agencies, along with the need to renew 3rd party reporting mechanisms for hate incidents/crimes in general.
  • The need for an LGBT Champion in the Borough.
