In March 2006 Sutton Council was awarded Beacon Status for its Waste & Recycling Service. The award was made for Sutton’s innovative approach to using waste technologies that enable it to recycle more and divert as much as possible from landfill. Sutton was also applauded for its high customer satisfaction rates for its collection services and a strong education and communication programme.

Since March 2006 Sutton has been disseminating its expertise to other local authorities by holding a two-day conference with the London Borough of Bexley, another Beacon Council, in November and sharing information throughout the year by putting on seminars on specific aspects of our Waste Management work. Details of these are posted on our website.
