Green Fingered Youngsters Launch Borough Competition

The search for Sutton’s top gardeners and green-fingered enthusiasts is on.

As winners in the Best School Garden category in 2006 and 2007, the budding horticulturalists know just what’s needed to produce a prize-winning entry and youngsters Kane and Sara showed the Mayor just what to do to help brighten up the borough.

They also got a few more tips from the experts at Woodcote Green Nurseries – one of the sponsors of this year’s competition, which will see gardening enthusiasts battling it out for Best Front Garden, Best Community Garden, Best Allotment Garden, Best Business Frontage and Best Wildlife Garden.
Times Square Shopping Centre and the London Wildcare Trust are also supporting Sutton In Bloom as part of Sutton Council’s Take Part Take Pride initiative.

This year’s winners will be invited to attend a lunch on Wednesday July 9th during Take Part Take Pride week, where they will have an opportunity to discuss their entry with the London In Bloom judges.  Certificates of excellence will be awarded to entrants in all categories who the judges feel have made a significant contribution to brightening up the borough and the best of the entries will represent Sutton in the prestigious London in Bloom competition.

Entry forms for Sutton in Bloom 2008 are available online, from borough libraries or by telephoning the Parks Service on 020 8770 5070 and must be returned by
Friday, June 20th.
