Community and Living

Community and Living

Sutton is a borough of intriguing contrasts, from the north where it has many of the characteristics of inner London with areas of significant deprivation to its southern boundaries where it borders open fields and the North Downs.

Sutton's 180,000-strong community benefits from a vibrant economy and a quality of life that has attracted many major employers. Unemployment is a low, with jobs locally mainly in the service area, professional, light industrial and retail sectors. The borough has a substantial population of commuters.

Its prosperity is evident in booming shopping centres and in the district centres of Cheam, North Cheam, Worcester Park, Rose Hill, Carshalton and Wallington.
