Blue Badges

Parking Services Permit Team administer the Blue Badge scheme for Sutton residents. The Blue Badge scheme is a Europe-wide scheme of parking concessions for disabled people who travel as either drivers or passengers. You can apply for a Blue Badge which entitles you to 3 years of concessions.

Misuse of a Blue Badge is a serious criminal offence (non-disabled people using a Blue Badge are liable for a fine of up to £1000). Your badge can be withdrawn if you misuse it or allow others to misuse it. If you have evidence that a Blue Badge scheme is being abused please report it to Parking Services.

If you see a need for parking enforcement, such as a non-Blue Badge holder using a disabled persons’ bay or unlawful footway parking, please call our contractor NCP directly on 020 8661 9645.

New Blue Badge Scheme Regulations :

What Changes Are Being Made?

A) Extend eligibility to children under the age of two who, due to a specific medical condition, need to travel with bulky medical equipment or be close to a vehicle for emergency medical treatment

B) Extend the eligibility criterion for people with severe disabilities in both arms who can drive a non adapted vehicle but can not operate all or some types of parking meters

C) Allow for badges to be for a period of less than three years to people who are awarded the higher rate mobility component of the disability living allowance

D) Change the design of the badge to help prevent fraud and aid enforcement including the introduction of an anti fraud hologram, additional wording identifying the front of the badge and a gender specific serial number on both sides of the badge

E) Modernise the regulations, so that the scheme is no longer available to individuals with 'blue trikes' as such vehicles are no longer in use.

The above changes are effective from the 15 October 2007 if you need further information or have any questions on the new regulations, please contact the Blue Badge Helpline on 020 7944 2914.
