KEY PLANS

The council's three year corporate plan, the Sutton Plan 2008-11 sets out the organisation's key priorities for the next three years and how we are working to create a fairer, safer and greener borough.

Together with our partner organisations in the Sutton Partnership, we produce a community strategy called the Sutton Strategy 2008-20.  This sets out what the council, the police, local NHS organisations and the voluntary and community sector are committed to achieving over the next 12 years.  The plan includes 25 three year targets which have been agreed with Government as part of our Local Area Agreement and identifies 9 longer term outcomes to be achieved by 2020.

Equality and diversity are central to the work of the council. The Sutton Equality Scheme sets out our commitment to equalities and diversity and details the actions we are taking.  Further information can be accessed via the link below:

The Safer Sutton Partnership Plan is a joint plan produced by the police, fire and rescue authority, the council and the primary care trust. The plan sets out our determination to make Sutton the safest borough in London.

The Community Engagement Strategy builds on existing good practice and provides a framework to underpin the Council's approach to engagement. It details the principles which will guide our committment to engagement and the practical steps that will be taken when involving residents in the design and delivery of services.

PERFORMANCE REPORTS

The council is committed to continuous improvement.  We assess our own performance closely and produce a number of documents setting out how we are doing.  In 2008 the council is being assessed by the Government watchdog, the Audit Commission, as part of a national inspection programme called the Comprehensive Performance Assessment.  The council is currently rated as 4 out of 4 by the Audit Commission.  As part of this year's inspection, we have produced a self-assessment which sets out what the council is seeking to achieve with its partners, how we prioritise resources and maximise capacity to deliver achievements on the ground.

Corporate Assessment Self-Assessment

All councils were required by Government to produce a report setting out their performance against statutory national performance indicators until this year.  The performance indicators covered the range of council services.  In 2008/09 the Government has introduced a new set of indicators and removed the requirement on councils to produce best value performance plans.  Our performance against the national indicators in 2007/08 is set out in the plan below.

Best Value Performance Plan 2008

In 2007 we also published an Annual Report which set out our achievements during the 206/07 financial year.  The second edition of the Sutton Plan (see above) provides information on the council's achievements during 2007/08, as does the corporate assessment self-assessment.

In 2007/08 we made changes to our scrutiny process.  The council's scrutiny committees operate in a similiar way to Whitehall select committees, carrying out investigations and making recommendations to the executive.  The annual report below sets out what the scrutiny committees have achieved in 2007/08.
