Access to Libraries in Sutton

This page describes the accessibility of each of our libraries with any special facilities available.
The Library Manager will be pleased to advise you before your visit.  Please telephone for opening times of each library

All libraries have induction loops.

All our libraries stock a selection of Large Print books and Talking Books.

Computers are available to use in all libraries and give access to the Internet.  Most libraries have
a PC with an enhanced screen, scanner and Supernova, which makes computers accessible to
visually impaired people.  Please phone your local library for further information and availability.

Pedestrian access
The library has level access from Cheam Road.  Access from St Nicholas Way is via a ramp.  
From the High Street use the underpass and ramps to access the Civic Offices lift, which will take
you to the library. 

Parking
Blue Badge holders can park in the Civic Offices car park adjacent to the library building.  Please
follow the instructions at the barrier and park in the designated bays.  Access to the library is via
the lift in the Civic Offices.  Disabled parking bays are also available in the Gibson Road car park.

Internal access
The library is fully accessible with lifts to all floors.

Facilities
There are two disabled toilets and a coffee shop.

On the ground floor there is a selection of Large Print books.

On the first floor there are music recordings, films and Talking Books on CD and cassette.

On the second floor there is a section with information on disabilities.  The Library also takes the
Sutton Talking Newspaper for local news, AIRS newspaper which contains national news and
'Sunny Side Up', a weekly audio magazine.  All are on cassette.  There is a CCTV/print magnifier. 
This enlarges text.  It allows you to view documents with black type on white or white type on
black.  Shadow masking and text highlighting makes it easier to read columns, such as bank
statements or text on prescriptions or pill bottles.

Beddington library is situated in the Broadway's parade of shops.  It is accessible for
wheelchairs. 


Carshalton Library

All services are on the ground floor.  Level access is available through a side door.  This has an
automatic door, ramp, handrail and lighting.  There are three steps to the main entrance which
has automatic doors.  The children's library is on the ground floor and is accessible via a step lift.

Cheam Library

Cheam Library is accessible on the ground floor where all services are located.  It has automatic opening doors and an accessible public toilet.  There is also a RADAR toilet.  It has a car park adjacent with spaces for Blue Badge holders.  Upstairs there is a meeting room.  This is
accessible via a stair lift


Middleton Circle Library

Middleton Circle Library is accessible to wheelchair users.  The building is fitted with
automatic doors.  Parking for disabled motorists is available.  There is a conservatory with drinks
facilities leading to an accessible garden with scented plants.

The library is fully accessible.   There is a car park at the library with designated disabled
parking spaces.  There is level access into the building.  Disabled toilets are available.

There is a public car park adjacent to the library with spaces for disabled car users.

Wallington library is a fully accessible library.  First floor access is by lift.  There is an accessible toilet.  There is also a RADAR toilet.

The library is fully accessible.  Disabled parking bays are situated outside the library with further
parking available in the Waitrose car park.

There is a meeting room on the first floor.  This is accessible vai a stair lift.

A disabled toilet is available.


Children's Activities

All libraries hold regular story times for children and special events during the holidays - please phone individual libraries for details.

For those who have difficulty getting to or using their local library, the Home Library service  makes regular call on people in their own homes.  There is also the Homecare library, a fully
accessible mobile library, which makes regular calls at residential homes, day centres and sheltered housing.
