Session: Mother Nature Designer

Key stage/year group: KS1 year 1 & 2

Length of Session: 2 Hrs

NC – Investigating and Making art, craft and design (2a,b,c)

Resources:  Feely Bag, selection of natural materials e.g. bark, stone. Materials for making crafts.

Introduction 

Feely Bag (containing a stone, stick, leaf etc) Children feel an object from inside the bag and say what it feels like e.g rough/ smooth, hard/soft.

Explain that they are going to make lots of things using different materials.  Like some of the ones from the feely bag.

Colour strips

Bark rubbing

Mud prints

Autumn leaf artist

Natural mobiles

Plenary   

Sitting in a circle, each child shows their favourite creation from the day.  They answer questions What do they like about it? How did they create certain effects?  What would they improve for next time?

If time permits they could review each others work in pairs.
