Open Space Strategy

The Council has produced an Open Space Strategy in accordance with the Greater London Authority Guide to Preparing Open Space Strategies and Government guidance in Planning Policy Guidance 17: Planning for Open Space, Sport and Recreation. The purpose of the Strategy is to provide clear objectives and a framework by which the Council can effectively manage, maintain and enhance the Open Space network of the Borough.

The Strategy has been prepared in the context of a study into the current supply, quality and demand for, and use of open space in the Borough undertaken by consultants Scott Wilson in 2005 on behalf of the Council.

There was extensive public consultation over the preparation of the Strategy in order to ensure that the aspirations of stakeholders were taken on board. Public consultation over a draft Strategy was carried out for a period of six weeks between 14 June 2006 and 26 July 2006.
