Changes to the service:
From 2nd June 2008 there will be important changes to the garden waste collection service.
-
There will be an annual charge of £35 per bag. The £35 charge covers the whole year – from June to May. If you join part way through the year, for example in December, you would pay £3 per month until the end of May 2009.
-
Each bag is 75 litres. You can have up to three bags per household. The cost of each bag equates to £1.35 per fortnightly collection
-
The new service will operate for 12 months of the year – compared to the old nine month service
-
To order your new garden waste sack telephone 020 8770 5070 (deliveries will be made within 20 working days), or purchase from the Civic Offices or your Local Library. Please note, as with all your household waste, you need to put your sack out after 8pm the night before you collection, or before 6am on the day of your collection. Bags placed out after the collection was made will not be taken.

What will we collect?
- Twigs, sticks, leaves, grass and hedge clippings, old plants and weeds
- We can only collect branches up to 20cm (or 8 inches) diameter
- Please don't put non-biodegradable materials like old furniture or concrete in the garden waste bags – we use your garden waste to make compost
- Bags that are contaminated with non-garden waste will not be collected

Why are we charging £35 for the Garden Waste Service?
We are committed to reducing the borough's carbon footprint. As part of this strategy we want to encourage as many people as possible to compost at home, cutting down the need to transport material to recycling centres. We recognise, however, that some residents still require this service and so we will continue offering the service but will make a charge for it. |

Residents can still deliver their garden waste to Kimpton Park Way (Tuesday to Sunday) and Viridor Waste Management Site (weekends and Bank Holiday Mondays) in Beddington Lane, free of charge.
