Safeguarding vulnerable adults
All of us have a right to a life free from violence and abuse.

What does it mean for me?
Some of us are more at risk of abuse than others due to our age, disability, physical or mental ill health or substance misuse. Sutton Council and our partners are committed to a 'zero tolerance' approach to the abuse of vulnerable adults.
Harm can be caused by:
- Physical abuse
- Sexual abuse
- Psychological abuse
- Financial or material abuse
- Neglect and poor care
- Discriminatory abuse
- Institutional abuse
Abuse can occur at home or in a care setting. Most victims know the person who is harming them or not looking after them properly. They often find it difficult to ask for help and may not realise they are being abused.
