Sutton takes a pro active approach to the development of Aquatic activity.

In this section you will find information relating to a number of different areas. 

From School Swimming to Club Swimming and Squads to Galas there is an area for everyone.

Swimming Development Officer

Swimming Development Officer

The London Borough of Sutton takes pride in being forward thinking and progressive. To this end the post of Swimming Development Officer (SDO) was created in order to bring together and co-ordinate all parties interested in aquatic activity.

Swimming Strategy for Sutton

The first swimming strategy was written in 1998 and covered a three year period. At the time it was produced it was regarded as a partnership between agencies, which included the local authority, Sport England and the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA).

School Swimming

Schools play a vital role in the development of sports and recreation in a number of areas. In general terms, schools provide a potentially large catchment population of young people who may become regular users of sports and recreation facilities.

Sutton Swimming Association

The object of the association is to promote the teaching and practice of swimming, diving, water polo and life saving and to stimulate the public opinion in favour of providing proper accommodation and facilities as well as acting as a link between the clubs, associations and the local authority.

Swimming Galas

There are a number of swimming galas that happen annually. Some are borough competitions whilst others are inter-borough competitions.

Swimming Clubs

There are a number of swimming clubs who operate within the borough, all are based at Cheam Leisure Centre and cater for a wide ranges of abilities/needs.

Borough Swimming Squad

The squad was established in 2006 in response to the success enjoyed over recent years in the London Youth Games and the inter-borough Schools competitions.

Disability Swimming

Swimming for people with disabilities has enjoyed a growth in popularity over the past five years thanks in the most part to greater access to facilities and the provision of specific sessions.
