Sutton secondary schools
Details about the Secondary schools in Sutton.

When will my child start secondary school?
In Sutton, children transfer to secondary school in the academic year after they turn 11. If your child's date of birth falls between 1 September 1999 and 31 August 2000 they will be due to transfer to secondary school in September 2011.

How can I apply?
Parents should complete the Common Application Form for their Home Local Authority, with details of the schools that they wish to apply for, wherever the schools are located. In Sutton, parents can name up to six schools, and these should be listed in rank order, that is in the order that the parent prefers them. If a parent applies to a school that is in another Borough, their Home Local Authority will share details of the application with the Local Authority where the school is located.

The coordinated admissions process
Each school or Local Authority will then consider each application against their published admission arrangements, and determine whether or not a place can be offered. Local Authorities across London and the surrounding areas then coordinate offers, to ensure that no child receives more than one offer of a school place. The offer that will be made will be for the highest preference school, as ranked on the Common Application Form that the child is eligible for. Since participating in this level of coordination, the number of children without an offer has been reduced, when compared to a similar stage of the process before coordination.

When can I apply?
Hard copies of Sutton's secondary booklet and Common Application Form can be obtained from:
  • Sutton primary schools
  • Sutton's Call Centre on 020 8770 6080

Parents who live outside Sutton who wish to apply for a Sutton school must complete the Common Application Form of the Local Authority in which they live, and should include details of the Sutton schools that they wish to apply for.

The closing date for applications for admission in September 2011 is Sunday 31 October 2010. However, we strongly encourage applicants to submit their application by Friday 22 October 2010, which is the Friday before the half term holiday, so that it can be acknowledged by the closing date.  Applications received after Sunday 31 October 2010 will be treated as late, unless there are exceptional reasons for submitting a late form.

Late applications that are late for good reason can only be accepted up to Friday 10 December 2010. Any applications received after this date will not be considered until all applications that arrived on time have been considered.

Supplementary Forms
Some schools have Supplementary Forms, which provide them with extra information that they need to apply their admission arrangements. Please check which Sutton Schools have Supplementary Forms. If you wish to apply for a school outside of Sutton, you should contact that school or the Local Authority where the school is situated to see if they have a Supplementary Form. Please pay particular attention to the closing date and return address for Supplementary Forms.
