Welcome to the Parks Service

Sutton's parks and open spaces offer some 1,500 acres of picturesque and tranquil oases in this busy London suburb. In addition to their natural beauty, many parks share an impressive heritage, including Nonsuch Park named after Henry VIII's Tudor palace and Oaks Park, home to the Earl of Derby who named the horse race at Epsom.
Most of the parks offer some sporting or recreation facilities, from football pitches to tennis courts, crazy golf to bowling greens and teenage ball parks to children's playgrounds. They also become the backdrop to local and regional events each year. |
In addition, the Parks Service manages and maintains 2 cemeteries, 1 burial ground, 5 closed churchyards and 36 allotments. We also manage 66,000 council owned trees and various woodlands, including 22,000 street trees.
The Safer Parks Teams, as part of the Safer Sutton Partnership, provide mobile security in the parks. Their aim is to help prevent crime, reduce vandalism and fear of crime, reduce litter, dog fouling and graffiti.
The Parks Service has also contributed to various strategies within the council, including:
Open Space Strategy, a planning document which states as its vision that "the Council will seek to maintain high quality and sustainable Open Space networks which ensure that the social, environmental and economic benefits of open space are enhanced for current and future generations of our community".
