A Brief Introduction

The maps you can view on our site are known as a Geographic Information System or G.I.S.
This is simply an electronic system which stores and displays information on maps.  In the case of Sutton Council,

the application of GIS is fairly diverse and ranges from displaying census statistics through to graffiti incidents and flood plain areas to name just a few.
