All Saints walk it! 09/07/2007

Children at All Saints Church of England primary school, Carshalton, have won £100 of book vouchers from Smarter Travel Sutton for making an extra effort to walk to school every day.

Out of all the borough's schools, All Saints topped the league table with the greatest increase in walkers - 39% - during Walk to School Week in May.

Councillor Tony Brett Young, executive member for education, presented the vouchers to the head teacher Emma Hart Dyke and some of the children on 4 July.

Dorchester Primary School in Worcester Park has also won a prize of £100 in vouchers for achieving the largest overall number of walkers - 88% - during the week. Walking at schools increased by 11% across the whole borough that week.

Councillor Brett Young said: "I am delighted that so many local schools are encouraging parents and children to leave their cars at home. Walking is a great, fun way to get some fresh air and exercise on the way to school as well as making our borough a greener, cleaner place to live."
