Get active at Sutton Arena 08.07.11
Sutton Arena is set to host a free weekend of sporting fun and games on 16 and 17 July.
The Active at the Arena festival will see the leisure centre open its doors to let people try out a whole host of activities.
Residents will be able to try their hands at over 20 activities, including a climbing wall, trampolining and new dance craze zumba, as well as tennis, cycling and gym facilities.
The festival will help to encourage residents to keep fit by fitting regular exercise into their routines. Studies have shown that 30 minute exercise sessions three days a week can help to lower blood pressure and boost weight loss, leading to a reduced risk of conditions like heart disease or stroke.
Cllr Graham Tope, Executive Member for Community Safety, Leisure and Libraries, said: "Regular exercise is one of the most important things you can do to stay fit and healthy, so the Active at the Arena festival is a great opportunity to try out some new activities and see if there's anything that you enjoy doing.
"Of course, playing sport can also be great fun. Whether you're a keen sportsperson or an absolute beginner, there's something for the whole family to enjoy."
As well as sports sessions, the festival will offer heath advice from Sutton and Merton PCT and complimentary health therapies from SCOLA.
Events will take place on Saturday 16 July from 10.30am – 4pm, and Sunday 17 July from 12 noon – 4pm.
