Unique Christmas gifts at the Europa Gallery 24.11.11

There are only a few days left to pick up unique, handmade gifts in the Europa Gallery.

Jeff and Brian

Woodturners Jeff Cordery and Brian Ash have set up shop in Sutton Central Library, where you have until 4pm this Saturday to buy gifts and home wares hand carved from local wood.

Jeff and Brian create their wares by shaping timber to make plates, bowls, vases and other decorative items before polishing the objects with oil to make them more durable. They particularly like to use wood salvaged in the local area, from scraps taken out of refurbished buildings to park and street trees which need to be felled. At the moment, some of the products are carved from 200-year-old oak rescued from the refurbishment of a bell-tower in Walton on Thames.

Jeff said: "This is the fifth year we've come to sell our carvings in the Europa Gallery. We're always pleased by how many people come down, and it's a good way of clearing the decks to room in our workshops for next year's things!"
