A Summer of Opportunity in Sutton - 25.06.09

There's plenty for young people in Sutton to do this summer - with more than 130 courses and 1900 free places to be filled, this year's Summer Uni is our biggest yet.

Running from 27 July to 28 August 2009, courses range from video game design to animal care, plumbing to jewellery making, archery to DJ skills. There's also a course on how to control your finances. And for adrenaline junkies, you can learn about the latest craze of free running.

Student Anna Chance who took the 'Stable Management and Horse Care' course last year says: "I really enjoyed riding and learning all the things about horses. I would do it again".

Another student, Cynthia, who went on the creative writing course says: "I had a lot of fun! I love coming home to tell my mum how great it was! I am really pleased with the work they helped me with!"

Cllr Tony Brett Young, Executive Member for Young People says: "Feedback from last year's Summer Uni was fantastic. Sutton Summer Uni is about getting out of the house and learning something new over the summer holidays. Whether it's to learn to street dance or to try your hand at carpentry – there's something for every taste. So make the most of the summer and sign up."

Summer Uni is run by Sutton Council's Youth Service.

The deadline for bookings is 3rd July 2009. All places are allocated on a first come first served basis so please book early to avoid disappointment.

To download a Summer Uni brochure go towww.suttonyouth.org and www.suttonchildren.org.uk. Brochures will also be available in secondary schools around the borough. If you have any further questions, email youthsummeruni@suttonlea.org.
