Sutton's disabled swimmers and the girls judo team struck gold at the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games this weekend (4-5 July)
Over 400 young athletes from across the borough took part in the annual event at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, the biggest youth sports competition in Europe.
Sutton finished an excellent eighth overall out of the 33 London boroughs. As well as gold in the girls judo the disability swimming team swept the board with first place finishes in the boys and girls events.
Other highlights were silver team medals in the boys judo and girls disability football, and bronze in the tennis.
Borough athletes also won individual medals in athletics, swimming, archery, disability athletics, disability swimming, judo, karate, diving and girls floor and vault gymnastics.
Cllr Graham Tope, Executive Member for Leisure on Sutton Council, said:
"These young people have shown tremendous talent but also a great deal of commitment too in training up for the Youth Games.
"For many this is their first real taste of sports competition outside of their school and club and shows the breadth of sporting talent we have in Sutton.
"In the lead up to London 2012 it is very encouraging to see so many of our youngsters compete and put in outstanding performances."
