Green travel festival returns to Sutton - 09.07.09
Manor Park is the place to be on Sunday 12 July for Sutton's biggest and best free family festival.
Move it at the Manor returns to the Sutton town centre park for a fun-packed day that aims to inspire people to use greener transport, get active and live healthy lifestyles.
The event is organised by Smarter Travel Sutton, the partnership between Sutton Council and Transport for London promoting sustainable travel.
Between 11am and 6pm visitors can enjoy stunt bike shows, cycle races, music activities and a host of competitions with some cracking prizes.
Radio Jackie will be on hand as will top cycle mechanic Doctor Bike, ready to give your bicycle a free check up.
Last year over 5,000 revellers flocked to the event and this year visitors are again urged to come on foot, by bike or on public transport.
Cllr Colin Hall, Executive Member for Environment on Sutton Council, said:
"Smarter Travel Sutton has sparked a real travel revolution in the borough. Since it launched in 2006 bus use is up by 13% and car trips are down by 2%, while cycling increased by 50% last year alone.
"It's great news for the environment and using the car less can bring big health benefits too.
"At Move it at the Manor you can find out more about how easy it is to switch to greener forms of transport.
"It's been a big hit with visitors from across the capital over the last two years and this year's event is set to be the biggest and best yet."
Ben Plowden, Director of Integrated Programme Delivery at Transport for London, said: "The Smarter Travel Sutton programme has already had a big impact in encouraging residents to choose greener forms of transport.
"As well as being a fun-filled day out for all the family, Move it at the Manor also aims to encourage more residents to join in Sutton's green travel revolution by showcasing all of the alternatives available. Travelling by bike, on foot or by public transport are often quicker, cheaper and easier than people think."
