Prince Crowned Sutton Young Mastermind 2009 - 09.07.09

Rachel Prince of Avenue Primary school is this year's Sutton Young Mastermind.

Five young finalists battled it out in a general knowledge round and a specialist round of their choice. The winner chose the four Rainbow Magic books as her specialist subject.

Every primary school in the borough was invited to take part in this year's contest. The final took place on Tuesday 7 July at Stanley Park Infants School.

The other brainy finalists in the black chair were: Casey Beams - Rushey Meadow Primary, James Offens - Tweedale Primary, Milo Wakefield - Stanley Park Juniors and Edwin Pendlebury - Barrow Hedges Primary.

8-year-old Rachel said: "I thought it was a bit tough. I was really surprised because I didn't think I'd win. I read four books and my mum tested me at home. I'd like to thanks my teachers and my mum for supporting me."

Cllr Tony Brett Young, Executive Member for Young People said: "Well done to Rachel on becoming Sutton's Young Mastermind. The competition this year was very tough and all the children that took part can be proud of their efforts."
