Crowds flock to Move it at the Manor - 13.07.09
Over 6,000 people packed into Manor Park in Sutton for the borough's biggest green travel festival - Move it at the Manor.
The free family festival offered a fun-packed day inspiring people to use greener transport, get active and live healthy lifestyles.
It was organised by Smarter Travel Sutton, the partnership between Sutton Council and Transport for London promoting sustainable travel.
Between 11am and 6pm visitors enjoyed stunt bike shows, cycle races, music activities and competitions. Radio Jackie entertained the crowds while cycle mechanic Doctor Bike offered free bike check ups throughout the day.
Cllr Colin Hall, Executive Member for Environment on Sutton Council, said:
"Smarter Travel Sutton has sparked a real travel revolution in the borough. Since it launched in 2006 bus use is up by 13% and car trips are down by 2%, while cycling increased by 50% last year alone.
"It's great news for the environment and using the car less can bring big health benefits too.
"Move it at the Manor showed visitors how easy it is to switch to greener forms of transport."
