Splash out for a quid - 24.07.09
Whether it's backstroke, butterfly or just a splash about, children across the borough can swim for a quid this summer in any of Sutton Council's pools.
Just sign up to a free Pay and Play membership to access a fantastic range of discounted activities at your local leisure centre, including swimming for just one pound a go. Children from the borough, aged 11 to 15 are eligible to sign up for the membership, which normally costs £10.90.
Funded by the council and Sutton and Merton Primary Care Trust, the discount is part of a local drive to encouraging healthy lifestyles from an early age. Many children stop swimming between 11 and 15 and it is hoped that the discount offer will encourage them to continue the sport into later life.
Swimming is an effective form of low impact cardiovascular exercise, as well as being a great way to relax.
Cllr Graham Tope, Executive Member for Leisure and Libraries on Sutton Council said,
"This is just one example of how our commitment to encouraging healthy lifestyles can make a real difference to your pocket and to your waist line."
"No matter what your age, swimming is a great way to stay fit and healthy, and now children can swim for just one pound, there's no excuse not to bring the whole family down to your local swimming pool."
