Residents get snap happy for parks competition - 04.08.09
Entries are flooding in for a Sutton Council competition challenging residents to take photos of the borough's parks.
With a final deadline of Monday 31 August there is still time to send in your snaps of your favourite green space and compete for hundreds of pounds of prizes donated by local businesses.
Sutton boasts over 80 parks and green spaces covering more than 400 hectares – that's an area the size of 550 football pitches.
To be in with a chance of winning people can send in photos of absolutely anything, from wildlife and nature, to sports, views or people - the only rule is that they must be taken in a Sutton park.
Winners will be chosen in three categories: adults (18+), 12 to 17-year-olds, and under 11s.
Cllr Colin Hall, Executive Member for Environment on Sutton Council, said:
"There has been a great response to the competition so far with dozens of great photos sent in.
"And there is still plenty of time to get your entries in.
"Our parks are among the best in the capital and hugely popular with residents. They boast sports facilities, ponds and canals, wildflower meadows, formal gardens, playgrounds, cafes and restaurants, so there really is something for everyone.
"I hope this competition, and the great prizes on offer, give people another excuse to head to our parks and share their favourite photos with us."
All photos submitted may be displayed on our Flickr gallery or used in council publicity.
To enter, email a maximum of three digital photos to firstname.lastname@example.org along with your name, address, age and contact number, as well as the name of the park where you took the picture. For film cameras please post up to three photos with the same details to Snap Happy Photography Competition 2009, c/o Debbie Bacon, Communications, London Borough of Sutton, SM1 4FE.
