Free parking boost to businesses - 11.08.09
Take a break from parking charges this August Bank Holiday Monday.
As part of its Ten Point Economic Recovery Plan, Sutton Council are supporting local businesses through the recession by providing free parking in its town centre car parks from 9.30am to 6pm.
Both Times Square and Gibson Road car parks will be free of charge on Monday 31 August 2009. The council's car parks in Cheam, Carshalton, Wallington and Worcester Park will also be free for the day.
Cllr Sean Brennan, Leader of the Council said:
"This is a key part of our Ten Point Economic Recovery plan to help residents and businesses through the recession. Free parking in our car parks this bank holiday Monday will make it easier for everyone to eat out, shop and enjoy their day off without worrying about getting back for the car.
"The council always encourages people to consider walking, cycling and using public transport, but we know this isn't always possible and while we're all feeling the effects of a recession."
Sutton was one of the first boroughs to set out a plan for action to deal with the recession. The Ten Point Plan was launched in November 2008 and was an immediate response to residents and businesses' needs. Last month, we announced a wide-ranging second wave of projects to support local businesses and families during the recession to follow up on the success of the ten point economic action plan. The projects aim to make sure Sutton is well placed to make a swift economic recovery and include debt advice projects, a mortgage rescue service, voluntary programmes and an apprenticeship scheme at the council.
