Nod for Brand New Children's Centre - 14.08.09
Families in Beddington Park are set to benefit from a greater range of children's services after Sutton Council's Development Control Committee gave the thumbs up for a new Children's Centre to be built at a meeting on Wednesday 12 August.
The new centre will be the first in the borough to provide Saturday openings and to provide a range of services for both older and younger children.
The Sure Start Children's Centre will be built on the site of the current Grange Play Centre and provide a wide range of services for children up to the age of 13. Most centres only provide services for children aged 0-5.
Services available to local families will include a pre-school service for 2-5 year olds, an after school and holiday childcare service, a sensory room and an outdoor play area specifically designed to ensure access for children with disabilities.
Cllr John Drage, Executive Member for Resources said: "This is great news for local families and their children. It will be the first centre to open on Saturdays and for the first time it will be used by both younger and older children. It will really benefit the local community and help deliver the best start in life for every child."
This will be the fourteenth Children's Centre in the borough.
