Kids' eco-tree comes to Sutton Library - 01.12.09

A ten foot Christmas tree made entirely out of recycled packaging has been delivered to Sutton Library to raise awareness of the amount we throw away at Christmas.

Built by pupils at Westbourne Primary School in Sutton, and containing more than 150 plastic bottles, the tree will be on public display in the Library until the New Year.

Artist Simon Honey helped the youngsters create the tree, using old magazines, cardboard, bottles and recycled packaging.

Cllr Colin Hall, Executive Member for Environment on Sutton Council said,

"So often our Christmas shopping comes with unnecessary, wasteful packaging that in a few short hours gets piled in our bins.

"Remember wrapping paper, ribbon and Christmas cards can all be recycled and we'll be collecting Real Christmas trees from 11 to 22 January on the same day as the regular green bin collections"
