The Big Help Out

This year's BIGGEST volunteering event is coming your way! The Big Help Out, is a national day of volunteering taking place on Monday 8 May. 

If you are interested in getting involved in volunteering but you are unsure of where to start, Volunteer Centre Sutton have a host of volunteering opportunities on and around Monday 8 May, as well as taster sessions and information sessions you can join.

Coronation Weekend

Location: Honeywood Museum

Date: Sunday 7th May 10am - 5pm

Description: Join us for a special royal celebratory weekend of activities at Honeywood. 

See Honeywood mascot Millie the Mouse in her very special coronation costume, follow the Royal Crowns Trail and see how many you can find.  Make a union Jack mobile, a crown fit for a King or Queen and complete a Wildlife Silhouette of King Charles to take home. £2.00 per child for all crafts and trail. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Coronation Cyanotypes Workshops 

Location: Honeywood Museum

Date: Sunday 7th May 11am - 12pm

Description: Create very special photographic pictures to take home. 

Cyanotype contact printing is a Victorian photographic process invented in 1841, which uses imagery exposed to UV light and rinsed in water to produce a beautiful photographic print in cyan blue and white. £3.00 per child. Please pre-book via eventbrite. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Capture Cheam for the King

Location: Whitehall Historic House

Date: 4th May - 20th May (Thu-Sat, 10am-5pm)

Description: Come along to Whitehall Historic House for a special Coronation trail!

Learn, explore and create with our new photographic trail and craft activities. Spot the difference between old and new photos of Cheam, take a Royal Portrait with our dressing up, and make your own coronation photo frame to remember this exciting event!  £2.00 per child for all crafts and trail. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Capture Sutton for The King: Then, Now & Next (Schools Exhibition)

Location: Sutton Central Library (Gallery)

Date: 4th - 11th May

Description: An exhibition featuring work from primary schools across Sutton. Children have been busy taking photographs of their schools, their areas and their celebrations at the time of The Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort. They have also been designing “sustainable schools of the future” in reference to one of the themes of The Coronation: Sustainability. Children’s work will be exhibited in The Gallery 4th - 11th May 2023.

The Great MisCAKE

Location: Library at the Phoenix Centre (1st May, 2pm - 2.45pm); Library at the Life Centre (3rd May, 4.30pm - 5.15pm) & Sutton Central Library (3rd May 6.15pm - 7pm)

Date: 1st & 3rd May (times and locations as above)

Description: It's the King’s Coronation and the courtiers have been tasked with making the special Coronation Cake. But, when they open the kitchen cupboard all the ingredients are missing! Will they find the ingredients and make the cake in time for the Coronation Banquet?

Join Cat & Hutch in this interactive family show inspired by The Cook and the King by Julia Donaldson.

Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Description: A great opportunity for young children aged 2-6 to visit the library and listen to stories all about The Coronation! From The King’s Runaway Crown to The King’s Pants, there’ll be a Royal story fit for everyone. There will also be a chance to get involved in some fun Coronation crafts. Please book a ticket for each child and adult wanting to attend. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult throughout.
