The legal duties for Governors are set out in the Children and Families Act 2014, the SEND Code of Practice 2015 and the Equality Act 2010. They include to: 

  • use their best efforts to make sure that a child with SEN(D) gets the support they need - this means doing everything they can to meet children and young people's SEN(D)
  • have a clear approach to identifying and responding to SEN(D)
  • publish information on their websites about the implementation of the board's policy for pupils with SEN(D), the school SEND Information Report
  • publish information about the arrangements for the admission of disabled children, the steps taken to prevent disabled children being treated less favourably than others, the facilities provided to assist access, of disabled children, and their accessibility plans
  • ensure that there is a qualified teacher designated as special educational needs (and disabilities) coordinator SENDCo for the school
