Overview of service
We offer training for young people (pre-16) who require ‘real’ skills in construction to enable them to gain a college place or obtain a job/apprenticeship for their chosen future. Students will learn about tools, technique, planning and estimating. We offer SILC in-house courses along with AQA unit awards and City & Guilds accreditation. Skills learnt include; Plasterboarding, plastering, fibrous plastering, pipework, tiling and decoration.

What we do

OFSTED inspection
No as we do not offer full time placements, however we are Quality Assured through the London Borough of Sutton, Merton and Wandsworth.
Staff additional needs training
Have all staff attended safeguarding training in the last 12 months? No as our Child protection •
• Certificates are valid for two years but all staff training is in date.

Have all staff received Disability Awareness training in the last 12 months?
• Yes all staff attended SEN and Mental Health Training JULY 2014.

• We are registered with SAMS for CPD for staff to attend relevant courses to support our student’s needs.
Assessing whether young people need additional
How do you identify that young people have additional needs?
• Through the referral forms received from school/PRU.

How is the decision made about what type and how much support the young person will receive?
• Taster Day/ Construction Days.

How will parent/carers be able to raise their concerns?
• Constant contact with parents on a daily basis and meetings held if concerns arise.
Supporting young people with additional needs
Who will plan and review the education programme?
• IAP

Who will work with the young person and how often will this be?
• 1-3 days a week both instructors work with and support the students when they attend for their scheduled sessions.

Who will explain the programme to the young person and their family?
• All staff at the centre.

How do you assess and review how effective this provision and programme is for young people with special educational needs?
• Term and half term reports, Portfolio reports and review meetings to discuss progression.
Supporting families
What opportunities will there be for parent/carers to meet with the team supporting their young person to plan their learning programme and discuss progress; how often will these take place?
• Parents evenings are scheduled once and term and parent/guardians are welcome anytime to visit and see the progress their child is making.

• Stop smoking services on a weekly basis, Sexual health clinic on a half termly basis.

• Reports, review meetings and constant communication with schools/PRU and parent/guardians.

How do you ensure young peoples’ safety in your setting?
• Health & Safety inductions, questionnaires, security entrance to the centre and students are not allowed off site unless accompanied by a member of staff.

How will the young person be able to contribute their views?
• Student feedback forms, student statement on achievement reports.

How can young people and parent/carers contribute formally and informally to the daily routines of the setting?
• Constant communication, supporting the code of conduct and signing of the Student/Parent/Guardian handbook.
