What is Open Data?

Easy to find, easy to license, easy to re-use

The idea behind open data is that information held by the government and local authorities should be freely available for use and re-use by the public.

The Council has agreed to the development of an Open Data area on our website. The purpose is to:

  1. Make all data we hold available online (unless private or sensitive)
  2. Encourage residents, businesses and anyone else with an interest to use our data to develop applications
  3. Increase transparency and accountability
