February 2015 Highlights Include:

Celebrate National Libraries Day at your local library! 

Sutton's libraries will be celebrating National Libraries Day on Saturday 7th February. There will be free tea and coffee available at Central Library from 10.00 am - 4.00 pm. Check with your local library for more information about their events on the day. We will also be running competitions to celebrate the day on our Facebook pages and twitter. Or just pop in to your local library on the day to show us some love!

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans History Month

Sutton Libraries will be celebrating LGBT History Month throughout February. Every library will be hosting an exhibition created by the Sutton LGBT Forum -http://www.lgbtsutton.co.uk/- on the theme of LGBT History.
See you local library for more information and details of their own events.

Clore Poetry & Literature Awards (UK)

The Clore Duffield Foundation has announced that the seventh funding round under its £1 million programme to fund poetry and literature initiatives for children and young people across the UK is now open for applications. Through the programme, schools, FE colleges, community groups, libraries and other arts/cultural organisations can apply for grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 to support participatory learning projects and programmes focused on literature, poetry and creative writing for under 19s.

Previous projects that received funding include: -

·First Story for Dixons Allerton School which received a grant of £9,273 for an intensive year-long residency by an established writer. There will be weekly after-school workshops, together with participation in the Young Writers' Festival in Oxford, a writing competition and a week's residential in Somerset.

·Action Transport Theatre, which received a grant of £7,725 to develop primary school children's appreciation of creative reading and writing through an exploration of traditional European fairy tales, using the power of live theatre performance.

The closing date for applications is the 6th March 2015.

  • Spine Festival Spoken Word Workshops at Sutton Central Library:

Want your voice to be heard?  Express yourself at open mic workshops. Join spoken word artist Rachel Sambrooks to learn how to develop your own writing ready for the Library Live: Open Mic Night on Saturday 14th!

  • World Poetry Day at Sutton Central Children's Library:

Make a glittery poetry bottle in our children's drop in craft session.
Saturday 21st March 10.30am - 12.00 noon.

  • Coffee Concert: '19th Century French Bon-Bons' at Wallington Library:

A personal selection of recorded music presented by Ken Dudley.  Refreshments provided by the Friends of Wallington Library.
Wednesday 4th March 11.30am.

  • Special Easter Storytime and Craft at Cheam Library:

A special themed storytime for Easter followed by a chance to get creative at our children's craft session.  Come along and join in the fun!
Saturday 28th March 10.00am.

  • Artist in Residence at Circle Library:
    The Circle Library will have its own artist in residence from 3rd to 14th March, creating a variety of artworks with children based on the theme, 'Home Is...'

Mothers Day Craft
at Library @ the Life Centre:
Design and make a bookmark for your very own special someone which we will laminate for you to produce a unique gift!

Sutton Safer Transport Team at Library @ the Phoenix Centre:
Pop along to this drop-in session to learn more about street and transport safety.
