Sutton Library is the largest library in the borough. It was extensively refurbished in 2004 to meet the changing needs of the modern customer.
Since it first opened in 1975, Sutton Library has been at the forefront of the public library movement, scoring many 'firsts' - the first public library to appoint a library writer-in-residence; the first to loan CDs; the first to establish a video lending library; the first to lend umbrellas and the first to offer a full public library service on a Sunday.

Facilities include a reader's lounge; IT facilities; 'sound showers' to listen to music and a fantastic new children's library themed around the world's environments.
The whole concept of the new library has been designed around the users needs and will ensure that Sutton Library's reputation for providing a contemporary, ground-breaking public library service continues well into the 21st century.
The new 3M SelfCheck terminals which use radio frequency identification technology (RFID) have made the library 100% self-service for books. Issuing and returning your books yourself is quick, easy and convenient and frees up library staff to be able to devote more time to giving you a better and more personal service.
