Help with your rent or Council Tax
If you are on a low income or need help to pay your rent or council tax, you should be able to apply for Housing or Council Tax Reduction. Our Benefit Calculator will be able to tell you whether you are eligible to claim or not. If you are eligible to claim then you can apply here.
An alternative way for you to claim is by completing the "Making a claim for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction form" or by calling our new claim line direct on 020 8770 6953. One of our advisors will then:
- take your details
- tell you what you might receive
- tell you what you need to do next
An appointment will then be made for you to bring in necessary documentation, your claim will be assessed while you wait, and you will be informed of the amount of benefit you are entitled to before leaving the Civic Offices.
This process is quicker, simpler and in the present financial climate good for claimants to be able to know how much help they are entitled to straight away.

In some circumstances we can come and visit you at home to help you complete the form and to collect any information and evidence we need to complete your claim.
Alternatively, you can download and print the claim form [10Mb].
However if you are applying for Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance an application may be made via the Department of Work and Pensions.
Remember: the sooner you send us all of the information we need the sooner your benefit entitlement will be assessed.
As well as sending us your completed form, you must provide original documents to support your claim. Part 15 of the application form provides examples of what you should send.
