I am a Carer
It is not just people being supported by carers who can get help from social services - if you are a carer you are entitled to have an assessment to make sure that your needs are being met too. We can provide a lot of help for carers including breaks, support groups and financial aid.
A carer is anyone who regularly helps another person with everyday tasks or provides emotional or social support. Carers can be children or adults. They may be parents or other relatives, friends or neighbours. They may provide full or part time care or share the care with another person.
Sutton Carers Centre provide a comprehensive range of support for carers. Details are available on their website.
If you wish to have an assessment You can follow the 'Assessing Your Needs' link below and fill out a Supported Self Assessment for Carers or phone the Peoples Contact Centre on 0208 770 6080 to arrange a social worker visit to assess your situation.
Please note, these services are for people who are not being paid to look after a family member or friend who is old or ill. Care workers (people who's paid job it is to care for someone) are not entitled to an assessment.
