Support for parents and carers into work or training

Information and advice

If you are a parent or carer of a child aged 0-19 years (or 25 if the young person has an additional need or disability), the Family Information Service (FIS) can provide you with information and support on training, volunteering or working in any field.

The FIS can provide information and advice on childcare and benefits.  Contact us for a copy of our Childcare Funding Factsheet or download it.

The FIS can also signpost you to information on claiming Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit.

Employability information at your local children's centre

All children’s centres within the London Borough of Sutton have links with Job Centre Plus. They are therefore able to offer up to date job vacancies and provide information on work trials and training opportunities for parents.

Job Centre Plus staff are able to visit some children's centres to offer general advice sessions to parents and carers.

Parents can also receive advice and support with regard to accessing affordable and flexible childcare to assist them with moving into work. The children's centres have links with:

  • the library service;
  • the Volunteer Centre;
  • local colleges and training providers.

If you are interested in working, training or volunteering but feel there are barriers in your way, then book your free place on a Your Future Workshop.
