Beddington Lane, Croydon

SGN major works project to replace old gas main to run from Monday 4 January 2021 and expect to last approximately 16 weeks. The project has been planned to be completed in the following phases.

Phase one – starting Monday 4 January for approximately six weeks

  • Our engineers will start work in Beddington Lane (B272) between the junction with Brookmead Road and outside Elberon Avenue.
  • For everyone’s safety Beddington Lane will be closed at the junction of Elberon Avenue and Jessops Way.
  • A signed diversion will be in place via Purley Way, Mitcham Road and Croydon Road.
  • Access to Jessops Lane will be maintained from the south of Beddington Lane. However, we will need to install temporary traffic lights in Jessops Lane and Beddington Lane to manage traffic flow.
  • The speed limit around our work area will also be reduced to 20mph.
  • The two bus stops in Beddington Lane between Elberon Avenue and the roundabout with Coomber Way will be suspended.

Phase two – starting Monday 15 February for approximately three weeks

  • Our engineers will progress along Beddington Lane working from the junction with Elberon Avenue to outside 152 Beddington Lane.
  • For everyone’s continued safety, the road closure, temporary traffic lights, speed limit reduction and bus stop suspensions will remain in place.
  • Signed diversions will remain in place via Purley Way, Mitcham Road and Croydon Road.
  • To ensure that we complete the project as quickly as possible, we will be working simultaneously in Beddington Lane at the entrance to Viridor Power Plant. To access the access pipe safely, we will need to install a second set of temporary traffic lights

Phase three – starting Monday 8 March for approximately three weeks

  • Our engineering team will progress southwards along Beddington Lane working at the roundabout with Coomber Way.
  • For everyone’s safety, we will need to close Beddington Lane north of the roundabout.
  • Signed diversions will remain in place via Purley Way, Mitcham Road and Croydon Road.
  • We will also need to install temporary multi-way lights on the roundabout with Coomber Way and Beddington Lane, south of the roundabout.
  • Bus stops at this location will need to be suspended.

Phase four – Monday 29 March for approximately four weeks

  • For our final phase of the project our engineers will be working in Beddington Lane north and south of the roundabout with Coomber Way.
  • For everyone’s continued safety, the temporary traffic lights and bus stop suspensions will remain in place around our work area.
