Sustainability Strategy Review 2018

Reviewing our sustainability strategy

We recently undertook a review of the councils sustainability strategy, One Planet Sutton.

Why we reviewed our sustainability strategy

The previous strategy (One Planet Sutton) was published in 2009 and had milestone targets for 2017-18. As the deadline had passed, we decided to undertake a review of what had worked well, what hadn't worked well and what had changed in the years since we published it.

What we did

During February to March 2018, we released an online survey for local people and organisations to give their views on what is important about sustainability in the borough. Over 500 people took part - thank you to all those who commented. The results of this can be found in the summary of the sustainability survey.

The findings from the survey and work with our partners were used to draft a new Sutton Environment Strategy. The new strategy set out the borough's ambitions for cleaner air, a greener borough, reducing energy use, creating a circular economy, and tackling climate change. The draft strategy was published for an eight week counsultation during August to September 2018. During the summer we also worked with the voluntary sector to find out the views of people who wouldn't normally complete online surveys.

Frequently asked questions
