About dog fouling in Sutton

Responsible owners clean up after their dog by using a bag or a poop scoop to remove their dog’s mess and dispose of it safely.  We provide special dog mess bins which are clearly marked in many of our parks and dog fouling hotspots. Dog mess can also be placed in ordinary litter bins. If there are no public bins nearby, then it is your responsibility to take your dog’s mess home to dispose of.

Despite this, in our recent Sutton Council Residents Survey*, 36% of Sutton residents reported dog fouling as being a problem in their area.  The number of dog fouling incidents reported has increased from 294 in 2013/14 to 323 in 2014/15.  Our residents are right to be concerned, not just because of the mess it causes but because it can also be linked to health risks including toxocara canis, which can cause seizures and blindness.

We recognise that most dog owners are responsible and clean up after their pets, but a small minority continue to cause problems.
