Under the London authorities act 1991, premises offering special treatments involving a degree of physical contact (such as massage, acupuncture, manicure, piercing and tattooing), must have a Special treatments licence to undertake any of the activities listed in the Special treatments list.
Some treatments and practitioners are exempt from Special Treatment licensing due to the nature of the treatments or membership of particular professional bodies. For more details, please visit Special treatments exemptions.
Once the licence fee has been paid and you have submitted your application to Sutton Council, a licensing officer will visit the premises to examine equipment, hygiene facilities and operating procedures. If the inspection results are satisfactory, a licence will be issued; this then needs to be displayed at the premises.

The Council will not be able to consider any objections to an application unless it is within its power to do so under the grounds of refusal indicated in the London Local Authorities Act 1991.
When completing an application, please take careful note of the requirements outlined in the form, including the submission of a scale drawing of the premises - showing treatment areas.
After submitting, you will be able to act as though your application is granted if you have not heard from the council by the end of the target completion period which is 40 days. Licences will be granted for up to 1-year.
