Waste and recycling services

Today’s Update

We will remain in constant communication with our partners, Veolia and Viridor, to ensure the impact on recycling and waste, street cleaning and other key services is kept to a minimum. Any changes that we have to make to these services will be communicated via this webpage and on our social media channels, which will be updated regularly.

Residents should continue to use their recycling and rubbish collection services as normal with the following important exception:

Households that are self isolating should follow the government's 'Stay at home' advice which states:

  • Store personal waste, such as used tissues and disposable cleaning cloths, within disposable rubbish bags.

  • Place these bags into a second bag, tied securely and kept separate from other waste.

  • These bags should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your usual external general waste bin.

  • Please do not take this waste to your local Household Reuse and Recycling Centre

Other household waste can be disposed of as normal.

Recycling and waste collections:

  • Currently services are operating with no significant disruption.

  • Collections of general waste and food waste are being prioritised.

  • For cardboard recycling, please flatten your cardboard boxes before placing them in your green wheelie bin. If you have an excess of cardboard, please flatten it down as much as you can and place it in a box alongside your wheelie bin and we will collect it.

Kimpton Park Way Household Reuse and Recycling Centre (‘the tip’):

  • The Household Reuse and Recycling Centre at Kimpton Park Way is closed until further notice. Bulky items, garden waste, DIY waste etc. should be stored safely on your property until restrictions on non-essential travel are lifted and the site is able to re-open.

Garden waste collection service (paid for):

  • Garden waste collections are taking place but with a reduced workforce.

  • If you subscribe to the service, you may find that your garden waste is collected later than usual - if your collection is missed, please leave your bin(s) at your normal point of collection. We will try to return in the coming days to empty them.

  • You can really help your collection crews get through this very challenging period by reducing the amount of garden waste you put out for collection. Use a home compost bin if you have one or create a make-shift compost heap (search ‘how to make a compost heap’ online for hints and tips). Or you could dedicate a corner of your garden for storing garden waste until the collection service is back to normal and we are able to re-open the Kimpton Park Way Household Reuse and Recycling Centre. Thank you for your support.
