Applications for the second round of Discretionary Grant Funds have now closed.

A Discretionary Grant Fund has been established to support certain small and micro businesses that are not eligible for other COVID grant schemes.

The typical grant award in Sutton will be £5,000, although an alternative award may be made in exceptional circumstances. 

To apply, please complete the application form by 2pm on Thursday 23 July. This second round of the fund may close earlier than the advertised date if the applications received exceed the limited funding available.

To be eligible for this fund you must meet all the criteria below:

  • You must be a small or micro business, with 50 employees or fewer 

  • You must have been trading on 11 March 2020

  • You must operate in the London Borough of Sutton

  • You must not have received a COVID business grant, including the Hospitality, Retail and Leisure grant or the Small Business Grant 

  • You must not be in administration, insolvent or have had a striking-off notice made

This fund is open to businesses that:

  • have relatively high fixed ongoing commercial building-related costs

  • have suffered a significant fall in income due to the COVID-19 crisis

  • You are not eligible to apply if your only property related costs are for a residential property (e.g. your mortgage or rental payments for your home). This scheme is only open to businesses with fixed costs linked to a commercial property. You are not eligible to apply if your only property related costs are for a residential property (e.g. your mortgage or rental payments for your home). This scheme is only open to businesses with fixed costs linked to a commercial property. You are able to apply if you only have commercial storage costs however our expectation is that these are significant, fixed and required for the running of your business. Storage costs should have been in place prior to COVID-19.

  • If you pay business rates (National Non Domestic Rates), the rateable value of your property must be below £51,000. If you do not pay business rates, and the property is not rated for NNDR, then your annual commercial rent or annual commercial mortgage payment must be below £51,000.

Once the fund has closed, all applications will be assessed against the criteria set out in the full guidance

The award of a grant, and the level of grant award is solely at the discretion of the Council. If the number of eligible businesses applying exceeds the funding available, awards will be allocated to businesses in the greatest hardship determined by those with the greatest loss of income and highest ongoing fixed building-related costs.
