Support for your business

The Council is working with businesses and partner organisations to support businesses across the borough. Information on this page will be kept up to date as guidance moves on.

Every business must make sure they are COVID-19 secure and can reasonably facilitate social distancing before they reopen. These measures are vital for the safety of your business, staff, customers as well the wider community.

Working safely

Please take the time to review the government guidance to help employers, employees and the self-employed understand how to work safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government has set out five key steps to working safely:

  1. Carry out a COVID-19 risk assessment
  2. Develop cleaning, handwashing and hygiene procedures

  3. Help people to work from home

  4. Maintain 2 metre social distancing, where possible

  5. Where people cannot be 2 metres apart, manage transmission risk

Working safely guidance is available at GOV.UK.

Risk assessments

The Government recommended that businesses and employers carry out a written risk assessment to ensure they are COVID Secure, and businesses should also display the ‘Staying COVID-19 Secure in 2020 notice’ in their premises.

Businesses must also display their own NHS Test and Trace QR code poster, to allow customers to ‘check-in’ via the NHS COVID-19 App. Read more about the NHS COVID-19 App here.
