Structure, routine and organisation

Now and Next boards (PDF, 21.64KB) – There are both ‘now and next board’ and ‘now, next and then’ boards to be used create some structure for young people at home so they know what to expect. These need to be changed once an activity is complete so the young person can see what is coming up next by removing the ‘now’ symbol, moving the ‘next’ into position and adding the following task. We recommend you therefore use something like blu tack so that they are removable. You can use words, symbols, photos, or whatever works for the young person.

Step by step timetable (PDF, 77.33KB) – This timetable can be used to fill in a whole day’s worth of tasks/activities, separating them into morning and afternoon. Use words, symbols, photos or whatever works for the young person to fill in the blank spaces.

Week Timetable (51.7KB) – This week timetable can be used to fill in a whole week’s worth of activities/lessons/tasks. You can use words, symbols, photos, or whatever works for the young person.

Primary symbols (PDF, 638.94KB) – A range of symbols that may be used for primary school pupils that can be used on the timetables or to support communication such as making choices. You can cut them out and use blu tack to stick them onto the timetables or now and next boards.

Secondary symbols (PDF, 255.82KB) – A range of symbols that may be used for secondary school pupils that can be used on the timetables or to support communication such as making choices. You can cut them out and use blu tack to stick them onto the timetables or now and next boards.

Today (PDF, 171.57KB) – This is designed to support young people to organise their day, giving them the chance to choose the 3 things that they want to try and complete that day, but also ensuring that they complete some form of self-care as well.

Tasks for today (PDF, 157.71KB) - This is designed to support young people to help develop organisational skills, giving them a visual support to separate the urgent tasks, non-negotiable tasks (such as stopping to eat and personal hygiene!) and the non-urgent tasks, but also ensuring that they complete some form of self-care as well.

Task Instructions (PDF, 46.98KB) – This can be used to help break down tasks for young people in a step by step guide, to enable them to complete them independently.

Schedule and choose symbols for home (PDF, 901KB) – Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust have designed this resource with a variety of symbols and useful timetables that can be used flexibly.
