NEET (not in employment, education or training)
We provide a limited NEET service whereby we are able to offer support to young people in the Borough who are Not in Education, Employment or Training. Referrals can be made via IYS Youth Workers, Early Help Panel, from locality teams or the Special Educational Needs Department.
We will signpost young people to realistic opportunities that are available in the Borough in relation to Education, Training or Employment.
We can offer a short-term direct intervention where we will meet with vulnerable cohorts of young people on a one-to-one basis to improve their educational outcomes and provide them with Information, Advice and Guidance to improve their life chances and employability skills.
The Lead Education Worker is part of strategic developments around increasing post 16 opportunities and championing the needs of NEET and vulnerable cohorts by building effective working relationships with partners.
Current and pending legislation in areas related to education and employment will be cascaded to colleagues along with information on Post 16 provisions in the Borough.
YOUthink is a voluntary, early intervention service which is available to young people aged 8-17 years who are identified as being at high risk of offending or involvment in anti-social behaviour.
YOUthink offers support to young people with the aim of preventing them from coming to the future attention of the Police. We support young people to think about their behaviour and the impact their behaviour may be having on those around them.
Intervention can be on a 1:1 or group work basis and is delivered with targeted approach to suit the assessment needs of the young person. Intervention could vary from referring a young person to a one-off workshop to ongoing case work support for a period of up to 12 months.
Part of the Young Londoners Fund and supported by the Mayor of London, YOUthink and the Integrated Youth Service present IDM Project (I'm Doing Me).
The IDM Project will support "at risk" young people aged 11-15 living in Sutton who are referred for key-work support from YOUthink and the Integrated Youth Service (IYS) to access a programme of educational workshops, group work and positive activities to reduce their risk of school exclusion and future offending.
Workshops included: Health Relationships; E-Safety, Boxing; Music & Crime; Education & Employment advice; Mental Health & Substance Misuse; Hate Crime; and much more. The programme also provides the opportunity for young people to engage in constructive activities during half term and our Summer Residential.
Workshops can be adapted for 1:1 support and some programmes can be delivered in schools across Sutton.
