Mayor – general information
Councillor Muhammad Sadiq - the current Mayor of the London Borough of Sutton
Cllr Muhammad Sadiq has been appointed the new Mayor of Sutton at the Council’s annual meeting.
Cllr Muhammad Sadiq resides in Sutton with his wife, son and daughter.
As an entrepreneur, Muhammad has built several successful businesses. However, besides this, he has always been passionate in serving the local community and has been doing so since 1975. Most recently, Muhammad has served as a school governor at a local primary school for the past 12 years where he also chaired various committees. He also served as a member of Admission Appeal Panel for Glenthorne High School where he also often chaired the panel.
Muhammad was elected in 2014 as a Councillor for Wallington South and has worked to better Sutton as Vice Chair of the Children, Families and Education Committee and also as Vice Chair of the Beddington and Wallington Local Committee.
Muhammad had the honour of being elected as Mayor of Sutton for the municipal year 2015/2016 when, with the help of his charity committee, raised funds for his two local charities.
After completing his Mayoral term, Muhammad was elected as Vice Chair of the Planning Committee until 2018.
The residents of Wallington South put their faith in Muhammad again and re-elected him as Councillor in the 2018 local elections. Post Muhammad’s re-election, he served as Chair of the Licensing Committee from 2018 until May 2019.
Muhammad is honoured to have been re-elected as Mayor of Sutton for the following municipal year. He has always tried to contribute to Sutton, whether that is through his time serving as Chair of various Committees, however to be given the opportunity to serve the residents of Sutton again in the role of Mayor is a privilege beyond words.
This year, Muhammad has chosen to support two local charities which provide our residents with admirable care and support; Sutton Vision and Oaks Way Centre.
Muhammad is keen to hear from groups or organisations (large or small, formal or informal) within Sutton that would like Muhammad to meet and support them. Arranging visits is straightforward, in the first instance contact should be made with the Mayor’s secretary either by phone on 020 8770 4998 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org.
