Virtual treasure hunt for school-aged children to launch in Sutton parks

Families with school-aged children in the borough can take part in a virtual treasure hunt during the school holidays - with the chance to win some great prizes - and get the kids active, outdoors.

The Sutton Plan - Summer Virtual Treasure Hunt encourages kids and carers to visit parks in Sutton throughout summer, where they will be able to find virtual summer-themed ‘treasures’, with the use of the BetterPoints app on a smartphone or other device.

As families explore Beddington Park, Cheam Park and Recreation Ground, Manor Park, Oaks Park and The Grove Park, they can earn ‘BetterTickets’ upon discovering ‘treasure,’ such as a cute underwater kitty in a boot or a grand pearl.

Each ticket earned will give you one entry into a prize draw. £500 worth of prizes will be up for grabs, as well as a prize bundle for one lucky family, to be awarded on 6 September.

In addition, for simply walking while using the BetterPoints app, users will earn BetterPoints, which can be exchanged for High Street vouchers or donated to a charity.  The app aims to encourage all Sutton residents to help improve the environment and local air quality by choosing sustainable transport options, such as walking, cycling or taking the bus. All residents can download this app to start earning points right away. Just click the play button in the upper right-hand corner of the app and choose 'Walk' to get started. 

The Summer Virtual Treasure Hunt will run from 1 August and 5 September, for those with school-aged children.

It is free to take part and download the BetterPoints app.

To get started:

• Download the BetterPoints app (for free!)

• Register and add the referral code “SUTTONTREASURE”

• Check your programmes area in the app and opt in

• Press the play button in the upper right-hand corner of the app and choose ‘walk’ in one of the parks listed

• Take a stroll and see if you can find the virtual items. They will appear in your BetterPoints app timeline as they are found
