Kingston and Sutton Councils have announced an exciting new digital strategy that will see both boroughs using technology to improve services, help residents and reduce council costs.

The joint digital strategy is a forward plan until 2021 and aims to create boroughs that are better connected through technology; allowing residents, businesses and visitors increased opportunities to work together to deliver benefits. Our Digital Strategy 2018-2021 details plans for improvements in the way residents can make payments online, access their information and improvements to council websites making them more user friendly and easier to navigate.

The strategy was agreed by Kingston Council’s Community Engagement Committee on 20 November 2018 and at Sutton Council’s Strategy and Resources Committee on 14 January 2019.

Cllr Sunita Gordon,  Sutton Council's Lead Member of Resources, said:

“This Digital Strategy sets out the shared vision of the London Borough of Sutton and the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, outlining how we will use technology to help us realise our ambitions for the borough. It explores the opportunities presented by the adoption of new technologies in order to improve the lives of the people that live and work here as well as businesses and visitors.

“We have spoken to residents, businesses, partners, experts and the voluntary sector to gather views from the technology sector, universities, other councils, and community groups. This strategy sets out how the councils' visions have evolved, and underpins and complements the councils' existing strategies and vision.”

Cllr Jon Tolley, Kingston Council’s portfolio holder for Community Engagement, said:

“In Kingston we’ve listened to feedback from residents about what they expect from the council and improvements they want to see and how technology can can improve our services.

“We are excited about the opportunity to set out the challenges and initiatives for a new Digital Strategy across Sutton and Kingston. As leaders and advocates in the delivery of digital government, we believe that our learning and insights can help transform government, build long term foundations, unlock growth and help lives everyday. We have a responsibility to our residents and local communities to play an important role in the delivery of digital government.”
