Statement from Chair of Scrutiny Committee P2

Scrutiny Committees are where councillors hold the leadership and organisation of the council to account for decisions and the way in which they are implemented. They seek to identify how things can be done better in order to deliver the "Ambitious for Sutton" strategy in the best way possible.

The meeting on Wednesday will be considering process and methodology used in communication with residents for the Parking Strategy.

This is a topic which may stimulate considerable discussion and the committee is keen to hear from members of the community as well as councillors. Given that this is a formal meeting of the council seeking to draw conclusions, participation has to be focused precisely on the issue under discussion. It will also be necessary to limit the time available to ask questions to 20 minutes for the public and 20 minutes for councillors.

In order that questions can be chosen that reflect the interest and concern of those attending, it is asked that questions are submitted in advance to scrutiny@sutton.gov.uk by 3 May.

As Chair of scrutiny committee I will ensure that the questions asked reflect the balance of interest expressed by questionners and I know that all councillors will be interested in the points raised.

The process for managing the meeting in the event of there being considerable interest is as follows:

Where a question is called a ticket will be reserved for the person to ask it.

We welcome anybody who wants to watch the proceedings.

There is limited space and 100 tickets will be made available on a first come, first served basis. Tickets will be available in the civic office reception from 6.45pm.

In order that as many people as possible can hear what is being discussed, the meeting will be recorded and the audio recording will be available on our website after the meeting.
